Today’s topic is antique handmade carpet auctions and why they are exploding all the way to the top. Is this a reminder of history or a passion for antique art. Let’s find out together next!
According to scientific archaeological findings, the Persians entered the Bronze Age in 4000 B.C. The intelligent Persians painted lifelike animal figures and intricate floral designs on stone, wood, clay, metal and bone. Persian painting (fine painting) is world-renowned for its delicacy and finesse, using brushes sometimes made from a single hair, which flourished between the 15th and 16th centuries and still endures today.
Of course, the mysterious Persian culture does not only impress us with cuneiform writing, Zoroastrianism, the Book of Kings and the woman in the black veil. Owning the magical flying carpet from “One Thousand and One Nights” is the ultimate dream of many people in their childhood, if you had a chance to get it now, would you refuse? Imagine a blanket woven with silk fleece, gold and silver threads and red and green stones, with jewel-like central anemones, shahabas palm leaves, curling leaves, twisting vines and flowers forming the main pattern, using the world’s best kolk wool woven on cotton or wool warp and weft threads, although it will not fly and disappear as in the myth, but still exquisite.

Handmade Carpet Auctions Have Long Been Available
In fact, handmade carpets have been auctioned in the international arena for a long time. Sotheby’s, Christie’s and other auction houses hold carpet auctions in Europe and America several times a year, and many internationally renowned museums also collect carpets. Not long ago, Christie’s London “Oriental Carpet” auction, a carpet produced in the mid-17th century in the Persian Coleman region sold for $9.59 million, refreshing the highest record of antique carpet auction.
Although the overall sale rate of this hand-made antique carpet in Xiling was good, it should be noted that not all antique carpets can be used as “soft gold” for collection and investment. The three aspects to pay attention to: texture, technology, pattern.
The first thing is to identify whether the texture is wool or silk, and the blended carpet with any artificial material is not worth collecting. Pull a hair down from the side of silk carpet and burn it, accompanied by the protein taste of burning hair, with more ashes and powder. As for acrylic and other products, there is black smoke when burning and the remaining lumpy ashes. The back side of the carpet should be observed. The hand-made carpet can clearly see the pattern, while the woven carpet has no obvious characteristics. The edge of handmade carpet is the natural extension of the warp beam, while the edge of woven carpet is sewn on by machine. In addition, if you turn the carpet pile outward, you can see a small knot at the end of each thread of the handmade carpet. Handmade carpets are not completely symmetrical, and it is acceptable if there are slight irregularities every 2cm to 7cm. And the pattern of the carpet should preferably have distinctive features, so that the price will be higher.
